Specification of graphic material preparation
We prefer accepting ready projects for print, sent in closed files, according to the guidelines described in the "Ready projects" section. In exceptional circumstances, however, upon agreeing with an employee of the Commercial Department, we are ready to accept projects that need changes or corrections in terms of print, in open files, prepared according to the guidelines described in the "Projects for further editorial" section.
Ready projects
Ready products are to be sent in a PDF format with the following parameters:
- COMPOSITE FILE
- Color mode – CMYK
- Additional colors - marked according to Pantone scale
- Bitmap resolution – 300 dpi
- bleeds – 3 mm
- Minimal distance between objects and the edge of the page – 3 mm
- traps (physical, not In-RIP) – 0,25–0,5 pt
Projects for further editorial
We suggest preparing the papers in Adobe software. We advise extreme caution while preparing projects in CorelDraw. Open files are to be sent in the following file types:
- Adobe Illustrator up to CS3 – .ai
- InDesign up to CS3 – .indd (pack: InDesign file with attached external files)
- Adobe Photoshop – .psd (with layers – not flattened)
- Adobe Acrobat up to 7.0 – .pdf (with layers – not flattened)
- CorelDraw up to 12 – .cdr (please remember to change all graphic effects into bitmap in the tiff format with a resolution of 300 dpi; transparency effects not recommended)
All papers should be prepared in the CMYK mode, additional colors should be marked according to the Pantone scale, and the embedded bitmaps should have a resolution of 300 dpi; you should transform the texts into curves or attach files with the fonts in use.
Comments regarding preparing the project
- If the project includes colorful background - solid color or bitmap - that reaches the edges of the page, you should add 3mm of bleed, i.e. extend the background outside the edge
- Objects close to the edge of the page should be at least 3mm away from it
- 100% black should not be printed - does not apply to aplas placed over other colorful objects
Printing materials for reel machines
Print size
Due to the specificity of reel machines, the width of the paper is described in mm, whereas its height in inches. This owes to the fact that the cylinder's perimeter is 24 inches - 609.6 mm. While preparing the project, you should remember to keep its length shorter than the cylinder's perimeter. In case of shorter projects, their length should allow you to place the project several times within 24 inches.
Technological break
Projects intended for print on reel machines should include a 12mm technological break. Technological break is an unprinted horizontal belt, which has to appear at least once in every 24 inches. The break can also repeat between individual graphic modules; this will make the overprint evenly repeatable throughout the whole length of the reel. Technological break can also be divided in two parts, of which one would be at the beginning of the project, and the other at the end.
If the project does not include technological break, our DTP studio will put it in during the assembly in a place with the fewest colors; this place however, would have to be printed over by other printing units. Therefore, the print is then made with more printing units, which additionally print over each color in, where the technological break was placed. This operation increases the cost of the print.
Perforations
Perforations should be marked in the file with a dotted line in additional color (overprint). Micro-perforations should be additionally described to distinguish them from standard perforations.
